I am Nikki a registered Naturopathic Nutrtional Therapist and Skin Care Esthetician with over 14 years of experience.
Health and wellness has always been important to me. I grew up in the countryside in the south west of Scotland where the mild climate and my green fingered dad meant we had a bountiful supply of home grown produce at a time when processed foods and pre-packed foods were becoming more available and popular.
After leaving home for university and exisiting on a diet high in sugar, refined carbohydrates and processed foods, my sensitive troublsome skin became even more of a problem. When my own family came along I made a conscious decision to reconnect with the fresh food I’d enjoyed as a child.
Over the years and faced with varying health and skin concerns with both my children and husband, I found myself increasingly drawn to more natural and holistic practices to support and heal and so my journey towards nutrition and natural skin care began.
At first glance it may appear that my two specialised fields are unrelated but they are in fact intrinsically linked. Our skin is an organ of our body and along with the liver and kidneys plays a vital role in waste elimination. Our skin is often a window to what is going on internally, for example allergies, inflammation, dehydration, stress can all be seen on the skin and are often external manefestations of internal problems.
I believe in a natural approach to health and wellbeing, a holistic philosophy to support every aspect of our body. We are not individual parts working independently but a collective whole of physical body systems including circulatory, digestive, immune, endocrine, nervous and integumentary. Our physical body and health are greatly influenced by our emotional and mental health and our unique microbiomes are crucial to both physical and mental wellness.
When one aspect of health is out of balance it can have repercussions on many other areas. Therefore by treating the whole being and not one isolated aspect, optimal health can be a reality for us all.
